A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING SHERIFF MARVIN M. FARRIOR OF WAYNE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, FOR COMPLETING THE LONGEST TENURE IN OFFICE OF ANY SHERIFF IN MISSISSIPPI.

WHEREAS, Sheriff Marvin M. Farrior, at the completion of his present term of office in 1999, will have served 32 years as Sheriff of Wayne County, which is the longest tenure in office of any sheriff in Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Farrior, a native of Washington County, Alabama, moved to Wayne County, Mississippi, in 1935, where he graduated from Waynesboro High School; and

WHEREAS, on June 4, 1967, Sheriff Farrior began his campaign for Sheriff and Tax Collector of Wayne County and on January 1, 1968, he took office; and

WHEREAS, throughout his career, Sheriff Farrior has participated in many community and state organizations such as, an active deacon of Riverside Baptist Church, a member of the Wayne County Criminal Justice Association, a member of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, a member and the chaplain of the Mississippi Sheriff's Association, a member of the Mississippi Sheriff's Boys and Girls Ranches, a lifetime member of the Mississippi Sheriff's Boys and Girls Ranches Builders Club and a former member of the National Sheriff's Association; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Farrior has received numerous honors and awards including Who's Who in American Law Enforcement, the Civil Servant Award, the Wayne County Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award, the Distinguished Service Award and the County Official of the Year Award; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Farrior has been supported in all his endeavors by his lovely wife, Connie, their six children and eleven grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, the Legislature finds it most appropriate to recognize outstanding leaders such as Sheriff Marvin M. Farrior, a man who has dedicated his career to serving and protecting the people of Wayne County:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Sheriff Marvin M. Farrior of Wayne County, Mississippi, for having served the longest tenure in office of any sheriff in Mississippi and we extend to him our heartiest wishes for success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Sheriff Marvin M. Farrior and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
